Brush fires in Sicily are a fixture of summertime. The extreme heat and dried foliage are prime fodder for random fires to start whenever someone simply flicks their cigarette out of a driving car. This fire in the mountains around Graniti was raging all day long and well into the night. Once the sun went down, I raced up the mountain to witness and try to capture the moment.

“For beauty is nothing but the beginning of terror which we are barely able to endure, and it amazes us so, because it serenely disdains to destroy us. Every angel is terrible.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
